East Rim Tour

The trip to China has been cancelled. We're meeting this Saturday for training, as usual, and i guess we'll discuss alternatives there.

Here are some of the salient issues from the missionary in charge:
  1. The situation in Mainland China is much worse, however. New SARS cases are on on the increase. The next three weeks will be critical in knowing how much the recent exodus of people from Beijing has actually increased the spread the disease. It is very difficult to know the true situation in other gateway cities. Rumors contradict the small amount of news that is given, so we do not know how many cases there are in places like Shanghai and Guangzhou.

  2. We are very concerned about the situation in smaller cities where hygiene and medical care are not as advanced. We cannot guarantee the health of anyone who would take part in any of the summer projects.

  3. We are concerned also that, should the worest happen, and someone fall sick, they would not be allowed to travel to access better medical care.

  4. Local governments are discouraging outsiders from arriving. we do not know how long this situation will last.

Pray for China, my friends!

I've been appointed to take care of email updates for the missions trip. Yay.
